Why Choose a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT)?

  • Diagnostic and Prescriptive: CALTs analyze existing reports and student work samples.  They then administer targeted academic skills assessments to establish a baseline. This data-driven approach informs the development of highly personalized and effective intervention plans designed to maximize accuracy, fluency, and understanding in written language skills.

  • Results-Driven: CALTs focus on enabling students to explicitly understand and apply the fundamental structures of the English language – phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and orthography. This foundational knowledge empowers students to develop age-appropriate oral and written language skills, encompassing reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension, spelling, and written expression.

  • Intensive Instruction and Multisensory Structured Language: CALTs provide intensive, one-on-one instruction over a sustained period. This approach emphasizes the link between explicit understanding, repeated practice, and performance, facilitating the development of accurate and fluent reading with comprehension. By integrating visual, auditory, and motor processing with an explicit understanding of the English language structure, CALTs provide a strong foundation for the development of robust written language skills.
